2008 Riverfront Jazz Festival a Big Success

 

The highly successful event will now be known as the Riverfront Jazz Festival and proceeds will primarily fund scholarships given by the CWSO and the UWSP Jazz Program each year.  The now non-profit event will continue to provide a jazz venue with local, regional and national performers providing a non-alcohol family oriented event.  It will maintain the quality tradition of local outdoor cafes, food vendors, youth activities and general promotion of jazz, arts and culture.  The Festival is made possible with the generous support of area businesses, UWSP and the city of Stevens Point.

Residents of Stevens Point and the surrounding area can look forward to another wonderful two-day jazz festival next Labor Day weekend on September 5^th and 6^st along the beautiful Wisconsin River, with wonderful music, food, family and friends.  For more information, call the CWSO office at 345-2976.

 

 

Event Overview & Purpose

The Riverfront Jazz Festival began in 2004 to take place on Labor Day Weekend and was originally named the Stevens Point Jazz Festival. Its goal was the promotion of local jazz musicians, nationally renowned acts, tourism and a family friendly atmosphere.  In 2004 it had an attendance of almost 2,000 people for a one-day event.  In 2005 it was expanded to a two-day event and attendance was over 3,000 each day, making this event the largest Jazz Festival in Central Wisconsin in just two years.  In 2006 - 2009 it continued to grow with over 5,000 festival-goers.  Now in 2010 along with your help we could raise the participation again. 

 

The festival has three primary goals:

1) Primarily promote local musical talent as well as annually feature internationally renowned headliners

2) Bring people together, in central Wisconsin to enjoy high quality music along with diverse cuisine for a wonderful experience in an outdoor venue

3) Establish scholarship funds for local music students who would be UWSP Music Department – Jazz Program majors and CWSO/UWSP String Quartet Scholarship student players
